Unit 5 Essential Skills

5-1 Student can identify all of the variables names, variable symbols, unit names and unit symbols for momentum, change in momentum, mass, velocity, change in velocity, acceleration, force, and impulse.

5-2 Student can explain the differences between a collision in which the objects rebound after the collision versus coming to a stop in terms of change in velocity, change in momentum, impulse and force.

5-3 Student can explain how safety devices reduce injury during a collision using the impulse-momentum theory.

5-4 Student can explain how the force, impulse, change in momentum, and acceleration compare for two objects involved in a collision.

5-5 Student can use the equations p = mv, Δp = mΔv, Δp = pf – p0, I = Δp, and I = (ΣF)(t) to solve for momentum, change in momentum, velocity, change in velocity, impulse, force, or time.

5-6 Student can solve problems involving elastic collisions by using the law of conservation of momentum.

5-7 Student can solve problems involving inelastic collisions by using the law of conservation of momentum.
