In regards to the PSAT, SAT & ACT....

In regards to the PSAT, SAT & ACT....

The UC and the CSU systems have both agreed to discontinue the requirement of taking either the SAT or ACT for admission or scholarship purposes, yet many private or out of state colleges continue to require it.  In light of this, we will be providing both the PSAT & the SAT testing options and are in the initial setup stage. Please check back with updated information as well as checking the collegeboard portal, inputing Whitney High School, for dates and times.
If you are planning on going to a private college or out-of-state, please research their own requirements in regards to the SAT/ACT. If you need to take it, please access the college board school search that is below. If you want to access the college board directly, here is the link:

Descriptions of the Different Tests

PSAT: The Preliminary Scholarship AptitudeTest & National Merit Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is done on one national test day in the fall. It allows 10th and 11th graders the opportunity to see how they score in the different areas so that they are prepared to take the SAT. If you are a Junior and taking the PSAT/NMSQT then, if you choose (you have to answer that question on the form), you can become be eligible for entry into the NMSQT. Sign ups through WHS link TBA.

SAT Reasoning Exam:  https://www.collegeboard.org/Contains two must do sections, Evidenced Based Reading & Writing as well as Math worth a total of 800 points each. There is an optional writing section with three sections worth 8 points each. It is encouraged to take all three at the one time since some schools do require all three tests.

ACT: https://www.act.org/ It is an achievement test that measures knowledge learned in school. It is made up of five categories: English, Math, Reading, Science and optional writing test. Hint: take all tests! Each category is scored and a composite score. All scores are based on a 1-36 scale.
